Northbound Interstate 5 closed through southwest Portland; all lanes closed until Monday

Closures have begun on the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 5, with Oregon Department of Transportation crews rerouting traffic off the freeway and closing on-ramps through Southwest Portland. The northbound lanes were closed as of 9:25 p.m., ODOT said. But the southbound lanes remained congested until 9:40 p.m., according to TripCheck cameras.

The closure will be in effect from Friday evening until the scheduled reopening at 5 a.m. Monday to allow for work to be carried out on the Southwest 26th Avenue Bridge.

Drivers should expect traffic congestion, especially along Southwest Barbur Boulevard, which is providing a local detour. Check speed cameras before heading out and allow extra time for travel.
