I had breakfast at Farmer Boys in California and wish the chain was in every state in the US.

  • As a Southern California native, I grew up going to Farmer Boys for their famous all-day breakfast.

  • I enjoyed the cinnamon roll-inspired French toast and appreciated the friendliness of the employees.

  • On a recent visit, I loved the omelet, the breakfast sandwich and the restaurant’s classic aesthetic.

When I was growing up in Southern California, Farmer Boys Breakfast was always a great way to start the day.

I didn’t know the fast-casual restaurant chain was only on the West Coast until I lived on the East Coast for a while, where the all-day breakfast restaurant, its employees I missed the friendly staff and the comforting atmosphere of the restaurant.

Today, Farmer Boys has over 100 locations in California, Arizona, and Nevada, but I think the rest of the United States would love it too.

It mainly serves burgers, fries, specialty sandwiches, salads and sides, but its all-day breakfast menu is why I love it.

Accompanied by my mother and grandmother, I visited my local Farmer Boys to document the experience and show why I think this should be in every state.

I recently visited a Farmer Boys in Rancho Cucamonga, California.

The restaurant stands out with its classic burgundy, golden yellow and green colors, announcing “breakfast, burgers and more” to passersby.

Founded in 1981, five brothers known as the “Farmer Boys” opened their first location in Perris, California, according to the company’s website.

After the company grew to eight locations in 1995, the decision was made to franchise, and in 2005 the chain celebrated the opening of its 50th location. Today, it has more than 100 locations in California, Arizona and Nevada.

As I walked through the double doors, several cheerful members greeted me behind the counter.

Even at its busiest, it’s the image of the Farmer Boys I’ve always known, at least from the employees who staff the restaurants I’ve visited: smiling faces, friendly attitudes and an optimistic outlook.

A casual seating area was surrounded by banquettes lining the walls.

The restaurant was clean and not too busy. We had missed the early breakfast crowd, so there were only a few customers scattered around the open seating areas, most filling the booths that lined the walls of the restaurant.

After ordering at the cash register, we waited for the food at our booth before a beaming waitress brought it back shortly after.

The chain’s slogan is “Farm food is not fast food.” I think the quality shines through.

For our breakfast, we selected dishes that we hoped would give us a complete experience.

We ordered the limited-edition Cinna-roll French Toast Platter, the popular Farmer’s Omelette, a hotcake, and the much-loved Two-Egg Breakfast Sandwich.

I finished the order with a must-have: a $2.59 classic cup of coffee with unlimited refills in their printed mugs, the perfect companion to the meal.

Shared with my mother and grandmother, the $35 meal was worth every bite.

The limited edition Cinna-roll French Toast Platter is the ultimate sweet breakfast.

The French toast platter was $9.99 and came with fried eggs and bacon as my meat of choice.

Topped with powdered sugar and cinnamon butter, this dish was my favorite of all the dishes we tried on this visit.

I love sweet breakfasts, and I found this one to be a well-prepared traditional French toast with a strong cinnamon and nutmeg flavor. The maple syrup added even more sweetness, making it feel like a delicious breakfast dessert.

Every component of the two-egg breakfast sandwich is delicious.

The two egg breakfast sandwich with choice of bacon as meat was only $5.99.

What really sets the breakfast sandwich apart, in my opinion, is the locally baked brioche bun, which is buttery, soft and perfectly wraps the two quality free-range eggs, melted American cheese and my choice of smoked bacon thick and crispy walnut.

The farmer’s omelette, a dish on the chain’s eponymous menu, is not for the faint of heart.

The farmer’s omelet was $11.59, but ours was $13.39 because I added pepper jack cheese and a “hot cake” on the side instead of toast.

This iconic and, frankly, monster-sized omelet features green peppers, diced ham, diced onions, hash browns, and shredded cheese.

I was served a generous portion of hash browns. I tend to like my hash browns a little saltier, but these are still fresh and slightly crunchy.

The warm cake that accompanies the farmer’s omelette is large and dense, which is no easy feat to eat.

My other side was a single hot cake, as they call it, instead of toast, for $0.90.

It was soft and topped with a dollop of butter (a little too much for me but easy to wipe up) and dipped in maple syrup. It was rather large, taking up an entire extra plate.

The best indication of a good meal are the empty dishes left behind.

Taste-wise, I can always trust this restaurant, which isn’t always the case with America’s favorite breakfast restaurants like IHOP and Denny’s – at least in my opinion.

On the way out, you are invited to ring the bell if the staff has done a good job. After a delicious meal accompanied by excellent service, I had to ring the bell with enthusiasm.

I think there are so many things about this restaurant that set it apart from the rest, and I would love to see it grow into a national chain.

From the quality ingredients that make the food worth every bite (especially their famous breakfast and award-winning burgers), to the versatile menu that caters to almost everyone, and the excellent service from friendly employees, I loves every visit to Farmer Boys.

Walking out of my favorite restaurant, I can’t wait to ring the bell, and from what I remember, I don’t think there was ever an occasion where I didn’t do it.
