Just Stop Oil supporters arrested for ‘plan to disrupt airport operations this summer’ | UK news

The Metropolitan Police said a total of 27 Just Stop Oil supporters were arrested on suspicion of planning airport disruptions this summer.

Arrests were made in London, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Devon, Essex, Manchester, Surrey, Sussex, Norfolk and West Yorkshire.

“Among those detained were several well-known members Just stop oiling whom we consider key organizers,” the force said.

Six more people were arrested at an east London community centre on Thursday “as part of a publicly advertised event promoting disruption at the airport”.

Chief Ian Howells, who led the operation, said: “We know Just Stop Oil is planning to cause disruption at airports across the country this summer, which is why we have taken swift and decisive action now.

“Our position is very clear that anyone who threatens the security of London airports can expect a strong response from officers and security staff.

“Airports are complex operating environments and we work closely with them, agencies and other partners in this operation.”

Certain conditions apply to people released on bail.

These conditions include a ban on traveling within 1km of a UK airport unless the journey is by vehicle or public transport.
