RANCHI: Former chief minister Hemant Soren was granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court on Friday in the land scam case. Immediately after leaving prison, he greeted his party workers.

When Soren was released from jail, his wife Kalpana Soren, media advisor Abhishek Prasad ‘Pintu’ and minister Hafizul Hasan were also present.

After filing two personal bonds of Rs 50,000 each in a special Ranchi PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) court, the court issued a release order against Soren. The bail order was sent to Birsa Munda Central Jail, after which Hemant Soren was released. Hemant Soren’s younger brothers, Basant Soren and Kumar Saurav, were his sureties.

Earlier, Hemant Soren was granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court in a land scam case. The Rongon Mukhopadhyay court accepted Hemant Soren’s bail plea and granted him bail.

“…The applicant is to be released on bail on furnishing a security deposit of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of the same amount each,” the order passed by Justice Mukhopadhyay said.

Hemant Soren, executive chairman of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate. He was arrested on the night of January 31 in the land scam case. The ED concluded its investigation and filed a chargesheet against five people, including Hemant Soren, on March 30.
