SAGINAW, Mich. — As a Saginaw County corrections officer sat at his desk, a colleague came up behind him and stunned him with a Taser. The shock caused the seated officer to step back and fall from his chair.

In the long run, the incident caused a policewoman who used a Taser to lose her job and face criminal charges.

The Saginaw County Sheriff’s Office released video of the March 24 incident at the jail’s control tower at 311 S. Harrison St.

The video shows the officer sitting at his desk while his colleague, Angelina L. Young, follows him. He pulls out his International X26 Taser and uses it to stun the officer under his right arm.

The shocked officer falls backward and out of his chair. Young, still holding the stun gun, pats him on the back and appears to help him up.

Sheriff William L. Federspiel placed Young on administrative leave while the investigation was conducted. He fired her in early June when the investigation was concluded.

The sheriff said Young stated she knocked out her co-worker to play a prank on her.

Lt. David C. Kerns said Young had been a full-time corrections officer since at least 2017. She had attended annual Taser safety training and knew not to draw it unless necessary, Kerns said.

Young was arraigned June 25 in Saginaw County District Court on a charge of assault and battery. The charge is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 93 days in jail and a $500 fine.

Young is represented by attorney James F. Gust, who declined to comment on the case.
