FBI Cleveland Special Agent in Charge Greg Nelsen was recently appointed by Gov. Mike DeWine to the Ohio Peace Officers Training Commission.

The Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission improves the professional competence of Ohio police officers by diligently overseeing law enforcement training in the state, according to a news release. The commission has also been given the same responsibility for private security, local correctional facilities, correctional personnel, bailiffs and public defender investigators.

“I am honored to serve as the newest member of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission and to help maintain and improve law enforcement training in Ohio,” Nelsen said in the release.

Nelsen has served the FBI for more than 23 years and, prior to his appointment as director of the Cleveland Division, most recently served as deputy assistant director of the Operational Programs Branch in the FBI Criminal Justice Information Service Division. CJIS provides a range of cutting-edge tools and services to law enforcement, national security and intelligence partners, and the public.

The members of the Peace Officers Training Commission are appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Ohio Senate. Members serve three-year terms. The Commission makes recommendations to the Attorney General on matters relating to law enforcement training.

Pursuant to the Ohio Revised Code, the commission also includes two serving sheriffs, two serving chiefs of police, one member of the public, a representative of the Ohio Bureau of Investigation, a representative of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a member of the Ohio Department of Education, the Ohio Commercial and Industrial Education Service, and a representative of a law enforcement fraternal organization.
