Bail denied for suspect in crash that killed 77-year-old woman and injured granddaughter in Cullman

CULLMAN, Ala. (WBRC) – A Tennessee man accused of leading police on a chase that killed a woman and injured her granddaughter in Cullman was unable to post bail under Aniah’s Law Friday morning.

On Friday, May 24, a police vehicle pursuit began in Hartselle and ended in Cullman. During the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle collided with another vehicle – killing 77-year-old Ellarea Dickson and seriously injuring her granddaughter.

Michael Neal Ivy, 39, Middleton, Tennessee was identified as the driver of the suspect vehicle.

Ivy was charged with murder, first-degree assault, attempted escape, resisting arrest, criminal endangerment and multiple traffic violations.

Ivy was taken to the hospital and transported to the Cullman County Detention Center, where he remains held without bail.

On Friday, June 28, Ivy appeared in District Court, where District Judge Wells R. Turner III denied bail on the reckless murder charge.

The case was handed over to a jury.
