Philadelphia Phillies stars Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber were placed on the 10-day injured list, but both avoided any serious injuries, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic.

Harper suffered a minor hamstring strain. He could return as early as July 9.

Gelb noted, however, that the team may decide to bench Harper for the rest of the first half of the season to give him more time to rest since the All-Star break is July 15-18.

This would mean the team would miss home games against the Los Angeles Dodgers (July 9-11) and Oakland Athletics (July 12-14).

According to Gelb, Schwarber has a mild groin strain but will likely only spend at least 10 days on the injured list.

Kody Clemens and Johan Rojas were appointed to replace Harper and Schwarber.

Harper injured his hamstring while trying to reach first base on a ground ball that ended in the Phillies’ 7-4 loss to the Miami Marlins on Thursday.

He had a sensational season for the Phillies with a 53-28 record, who have the MLB’s best record. This year, Harper hit .303 with 20 home runs and 58 RBI.

Schwarber injured his groin while throwing an outfield hit in the ninth inning.

“I reached down to grab the ball with my bare hands, got ready to throw it and I felt it catch,” Schwarber said, according to Anthony SanFilippo of the Associated Press. “At first I thought it was just cramps and I finished the inning. But when I ran in (between innings), I still felt it, so I talked to the trainer and he didn’t like where the spot was … so he wanted to get me out of there.”

Schwarber, who typically plays as the team’s designated hitter, has 17 home runs, 49 RBIs and an OPS of .820.

So the Phillies will have to do without their best hitter in Harper and one of their best power threats in Schwarber for a while. Here’s what the lineup looks like for Friday against the Marlins with both out.

Harper and Schwarber will miss the next three home games against Miami before playing six away games against the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves.
