Wandsworth Prison: Woman arrested over footage ‘showing prison officer having sex with prisoner in cell’

A woman has been arrested in connection with a video posted on social media that allegedly shows a prison staff member having sex with an inmate in his cell.

Scotland Yard said it had launched an investigation on Friday “after officers were made aware of a video allegedly filmed at HMP Wandsworth”.

She added that the woman was arrested on the same day on charges of misconduct in public office and taken into police custody.

Wandsworth is a Category B men’s prison in the southwestern part of the city London.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “The investigation continues. We remain in close contact with the Ministry of Justice.”

A spokesman for the Prison Service said: ‘Corruption among staff is not tolerated and a former prison officer allegedly featured in this video has been reported to the police.

“It would be inappropriate to comment further while the investigation is ongoing.”

Only last month the watchdog said the prison should be closed introduce emergency measures after an audit revealed concerns about ongoing security lapses following the alleged escape of Daniel Khalif last September.

The “deeply disturbing inspection” also found serious overcrowding, vermin, drugs, violence and a rising rate of self-harm, which has seen seven prisoners take their own lives in the past year.

In response, Chief Inspector of Prisons Charlie Taylor wrote to Justice Secretary Alex Chalk asking for urgent notice of the need for improvement.

The trial of 22-year-old Khalifa will take place at the Old Bailey in October.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
