The Euro 2024 round of 16 match between Germany and Denmark at the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund was temporarily interrupted due to unfavorable weather conditions caused by a powerful storm.

Referee Michael Oliver stopped play with the score 0-0 in the 36th minute and the players left the field as lightning flashed in the sky.

Then heavy rain flooded the pitch, with water cascading down one corner of the stadium roof, near the Danish fans.

“Due to adverse weather conditions, the match has been suspended. Further information will be provided shortly,” we read on the stadium screens.

The match was interrupted for approximately 25 minutes before being resumed and people gathered in the city fan zones were evacuated.

Public shows at Peace Square and Westfalenpark in Dortmund have been cancelled, police said.
