As heavy rain fell at the Westfalenstadion, both players stood on the edge of the pitch for a few moments before being led to the locker room.

The round of 16 tie started in good weather but conditions changed as the competition passed the half-hour mark.

Loud thunder, lightning, heavy rain and hail came as fans of both teams tried to take shelter under makeshift shelters.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, speaking on ITV, said: “I’m surprised it took so long to get them out because there were some really unpleasant incidents involved.”
