EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – El Paso is known for its rich cultural diversity. Food, traditions, you name it – but there’s something else that makes the Sun City unlike any other local talent.

Playmakers is an organization at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) that assists in the production of student performances in the Department of Theater and Dance.

According to the UTEP website, the primary goal of the organization is to raise funds for scholarships for incoming Theatre and Dance students at UTEP.

This season the organization worked on a very interesting interpretation of William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Mabel’s production of Midsummer Nights in Neon is presented as a late 1960s casino/showgirl fantasy.

The show will run from June 21 to June 30 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Sadowski Kruszewski’s June Studio Theater in the Fox Fine Arts building at UTEP. Tickets are $10 at the door and only cash is accepted.

KTSM had the opportunity to attend Friday’s show and to say it was a fun and aesthetically pleasing experiment is an understatement.

From the fascinating characters to the upbeat music to the visuals, the elements complement each other to make everything fit together.

What makes this show so special is the effort put in by local talent—local artists who are not only on stage but also behind the scenes to make the show possible.

If you also don’t want to miss this event, you still have a chance to attend the show on the last weekend, at 7:30 PM on Saturday 29th June and at 2:30 PM on Sunday 30th June.
