(KRON) — A San Jose family is asking for the public’s help to fund their son’s medical bills after he was hit by a truck Monday, leaving him seriously injured.

“We reach out with heavy hearts and hopeful spirits to support our beloved son, brother, nephew, godson and friend Bastian “Bazzy” Michel,” the 7-year-old’s GoFundMe said.

Bazzy’s family said things “took a dark turn” for him on Monday. After his usual tutoring session, “an unfortunate oversight” forced him to walk home alone. “Tragically, he was hit by a jacked-up truck just steps from his home,” the page wrote.

The accident resulted in Bazzy being placed in a medically induced coma as he battled serious injuries. According to his family, Bazzy suffers from the following:

  • Collapsed lungs
  • Skull fracture and cerebral hemorrhage
  • Both legs are broken
  • Ruptured spleen
  • Damage to his bladder
  • Broken arm
  • Internal bleeding

The family said Bazzy’s medical team is optimistic about his recovery. “With time and careful care, Bazzy will walk again and regain full neurological function,” the page said, calling Bazzy “a true fighter with an indomitable spirit.”

Bazzy’s family is asking for the public’s help to pay for his medical expenses, such as the cost of surgery and overnight stays, rehabilitation, such as physiotherapy, and to support his family by helping with daily expenses and meals.

“Please consider making a donation today to help Bazzy get back on his feet and ensure his family can continue to surround him with the love and support he needs,” his family said. “Together, we can make a profound impact on Bazzy’s life and help him overcome this daunting challenge.”

The page’s goal is $75,000. At the time of writing, just under $17,000 has been raised. Those wishing to donate can do so here.
