Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) (India), September 25 (ANI): President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday approved a pilot project under which prison staff will wear body-worn cameras in four states of Rajasthan, Telangana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh (UP).
The President has approved an allocation of Rs 80 lakhs for UP prisons under this scheme, the Office of the Director General of Prisons, UP, informed.
In order to maintain the privacy of inmates and staff, prison commanders will ensure the confidentiality of recorded data.
It is believed that these cameras will be helpful in detecting violent crimes, drug addiction, suicides and prison security issues.
Control rooms for operating cameras, monitoring, recording and storing footage will be set up in individual prisons, and these rooms will be headed by a senior prison officer. (ANI)
