A drunk driver on Long Island kills four people, including an NYPD officer

Suffolk County police say a man who crashed his vehicle into a nail salon in Deer Park, Long Island, was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police confirmed that four people were killed, including a New York Police Department officer NOV 5.

Nine other people were taken to hospital following the incident.

As confirmed by the PBA, officer Emilia Rennhack died in the accident.

“Our hearts break after this tragic loss,” the New York City Police wrote on X.

The identities of the victims have not been revealed.

Police say 64-year-old Steve Schwally was speeding in a 2020 Chevy Traverse through a parking lot before crashing into the windshield of the Hawaii Nail & Spa in a strip mall on Grand Boulevard near Brandywine Drive Friday afternoon.

Several people were trapped at the time of the accident and at least one person was airlifted to hospital.

According to the police, when the first services arrived at the scene, the driver was partially conscious.

He is currently being treated at an area hospital and is expected to be charged with drunk driving at a later date.

The car remains in the showroom.

Three women and a man died at the scene, and nine other people were taken to hospital.
