District Attorney Dennis McGrane stated:

“I have been working with Dana since she started here 24 years ago and have quickly learned what an incredible and consummate racing professional she is. I believe in being tough on criminals and at the same time trying to address the factors that led someone to break the law. Dana is the perfect person to achieve both of these goals. Several years ago, I asked Dana to lead the Diversion Program at the Yavapai County District Attorney’s Office. This groundbreaking program allows low-risk offenders with minimal records whose offenses have been related to mental health or drug use to address the underlying issues behind their behavior so they can become productive members of their communities.”

The Lifetime Achievement Award is intended to recognize an individual who has had a distinguished career spanning at least eighteen years as a public prosecutor, who has made significant contributions to the protection of public safety and the administration of justice, and whose career exemplifies the highest standards of dedication and commitment to the profession. Due to the nature of the award, it is not necessarily presented annually.

Ms. Owens has worked for the Yavapai County Prosecutor’s Office for over twenty years and has handled high-profile felony cases and supervised numerous units within the office.

In addition to prosecuting serious cases, Ms. Owens currently directs the above-mentioned Diversion Program. Ms. Owens also volunteers and lectures on numerous criminal justice issues throughout the state, as well as volunteering as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

Because of Ms. Owens’ success with the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office diversion program, she was asked to co-chair a statewide diversion task force established by the State of Arizona to support and improve effective diversion programs throughout the state.
