Wandsworth Prison: Woman arrested over video ‘showing prison officer having sex with prisoner in cell’ | UK news

A woman was arrested in connection with a video published on social media, which allegedly shows a member of prison staff having sex with an inmate in his cell.

Scotland Yard said it had launched an investigation on Friday “after officers became aware of a video allegedly recorded inside HMP Wandsworth prison”.

It was added that on the same day, the woman was arrested on charges of abuse of official authority and placed in police custody.

Wandsworth is a category B men’s prison in the southwestern part of the country London.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “The investigation is continuing and we remain in close contact with the Ministry of Justice.”

A Prison Service spokesman said: “Corruption among staff is not tolerated and the former prison officer allegedly featured in this video has been reported to police.

“It would be inappropriate to comment further while they continue to investigate.”

Just last month, a watchdog said the prison should be there introduce emergency measures after an audit raised concerns about continued security failures following the alleged escape of Daniel Khalife in September last year.

The “deeply disturbing inspection” also revealed severe overcrowding, pests, drugs, violence and an increase in self-harm; Over the past year, seven prisoners have taken their own lives.

In response, Chief Inspector of Prisons Charlie Taylor wrote to Justice Minister Alex Chalk asking for urgent notification so that improvements can be made.

Khalifa, 22, is due to face trial at the Old Bailey in October.

He did not plead guilty to the charges against him.
