Emmerdale’s Amy Nuttall explains Strictly rejection

Emmerdale’s Amy Nuttall has explained why she turned down an opportunity to appear on last year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Ultimately, the 2023 Glitterball trophy was won by Coronation Street star Ellie Leach and her partner Vito Coppola. Fellow soap star Nuttall has also reportedly been approached to star alongside the likes of Bobby Brazier, Layton Williams, Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Nigel Harman.

“Never say never, but I think it’s not for me,” she told OK! now. “I’m more on the audience side — I like watching it.”

The actor also commented on the phenomenal public response to Mr Bates vs. the Post Office, which has become ITV’s biggest drama since records began this year – averaging 14 million viewers and 24 million streams over its four episodes.

Nuttall, who played Lisa Castleton in the series, said: “The reaction to it has been overwhelming. I remember that after the first episode premiered, the director and the entire cast said, “Oh my God.”

“We were shocked and surprised by the reaction the film received.”

Nuttall continued: “I don’t think anyone expected this reaction. It’s been so wonderful for people who have gone through this over the years because their lives have been completely destroyed.

“It’s something none of us can even imagine, so hearing their voices is just a stepping stone for them on their journey to justice.”

The star also spoke about the possibility of returning to her role as Chloe Atkinson in Emmerdale, admitting she “hasn’t even thought about it to be honest”.

“Never say never. You never know what the future will bring,” she said. “I had a great time on Emmerdale and have very fond memories of being on the show, but let’s go back 20 years.”

Dancing with the Stars will return to BBC One this year as a spin-off Strictly speaking: it takes two will air weekdays on BBC Two. Both programs are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
