A 31-year-old man wanted on multiple charges in Tarrant County was arrested Friday after he fled from police and tried to steal a truck on Interstate 35, White Settlement police said.

On Friday at 8:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a license plate being read by a blue vehicle that had entered the city at White Settlement Road and West Loop 820.

According to the release, the alert indicated that the vehicle was believed to contain a wanted fugitive, identified by police as Joshua Dylan Gilchrest.

About eight minutes later, an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the 500 block of Parkside Drive when a female passenger got out of the suspect vehicle and the driver, possibly Gilchrest, began fleeing in the car, police said.

Dashcam footage released by police shows the suspect vehicle continuing to drive even though officers ordered it to stop.

The chase continued through city streets and southern Dale Lane. Police used a StarChase GPS dart to ensure the suspect could not remain hidden if he managed to escape during the pursuit. The officers also used spike strips.

Gilchrest police pursued the vehicle on Interstate 30 eastbound and I-35 northbound, according to the release. Video footage shows the suspect vehicle also crossed the median of the freeway, and police continued to pursue it.

The officer can be heard saying multiple times on the recording: “Driver, pull over.” Officers also reported that the driver was under arrest.

The video then shows the suspect vehicle stop on the left shoulder of southbound I-35 near downtown Fort Worth. Gilchrest exited the vehicle and fled on foot, crossing northbound I-35 and a service road. Multiple White Settlement and Fort Worth police pursued the suspect on foot.

In the recording, officers could be heard ordering the suspect to stop and put his hands up.

According to the release, Gilchrest approached a black pickup truck on the I-35 service road, opened the passenger door and demanded the woman get out of the vehicle.

Investigators believe the suspect was trying to steal a truck, police say. As officers approached, Gilchrest began to flee again, and the officer used a Taser to immobilize the suspect and prevent him from further carjacking attempts, the release said.

Gilchrest was taken to a local hospital for a medical examination, which is standard practice for White Settlement police when a suspect is stunned with a Taser, according to the release.

He was then transferred to White Settlement Prison, where he is currently in custody.

According to the police, during the pursuit, the suspect also hit the oncoming superior’s vehicle and fled the scene. The supervising officer was not injured.

Gilchrest faces multiple charges including warrants:

  • Serious attack on a government official using a dangerous weapon
  • Two counts of evading arrest and detention by means of a vehicle
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Four counts of theft of property valued at less than $2,500 with at least two prior convictions
  • Violation of parole without bail

Multiple agencies, including the Southlake Police Department, North Richland Hills Police Department, Fort Worth Police Department and the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, issued felony warrants against Gilchrest, according to the release.
