Firefighters extinguish fire between Elko, Spring Creek

ELKO — A wildfire between Elko and Spring Creek was contained to just over 13 acres on Saturday and extinguished thanks to several agencies, officials said.

Elko County Fire Protection District


The fire broke out in Burner Basin around noon Saturday, and officials with the Elko County Fire Protection District said the cause of the fire “is under investigation.”

“An aggressive interagency response prevented the fire from spreading to less than 13.5 acres,” the agency said.

Responding firefighters came from Elko County Station 28-Spring Creek, Station 21-Elko, Station 29-Spring Creek VFD, Nevada Division of Forest Service Station 52-Elko, Bureau of Land Management-Elko 4-SEATS and air assault.

Smoke from the flames was clearly visible across much of Elko on Saturday.
