Two suspects arrested after officer-involved shooting in Salt Lake

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Two suspects were arrested — and one was wounded — after an early morning officer-involved shooting in Salt Lake City on Saturday.

The incident took place at around 12:10 p.m., when officers from around Utah Highway Patrol According to the press release, he noticed a truck speeding “in violation of the vehicle’s equipment.” Salt Lake City Police Department.

The news release said the truck drove away before officers could conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle was later found abandoned near 5650 West and 700 South. The release said UHP requested assistance from SLCPD just before 12:30 p.m.

While searching for the suspects, an SLCPD officer “fired at least one shot” around 12:40 a.m., the release said. Officers provided first aid at the scene, and one person was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, one of the suspects was injured and a second suspect was arrested in connection with the incident.

Additional troopers and officers — including drone pilots and a K9 unit — responded to the scene to search for others involved, but no other suspects were located. Police said several investigations are ongoing in connection with the incident.

“As the investigation progresses, additional information may come to light that may cause some of this information to become outdated,” police said in a statement.

As is standard procedure, the officer involved in the shooting will be suspended from duty.

“This incident appears to have happened very quickly,” said Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown. “Our priority is to support the officer involved and to allow for a comprehensive and professional investigation to determine the circumstances and facts.”
