Big Boy restaurants are replacing their iconic mascot with a character named Dolly

The iconic Big Boy mascot is taking over after nearly 90 years.

The restaurant chain announced that while the restaurants will still be called Big Boy, a new mascot will be introduced: a little blonde girl named Dolly. The company said the change was months in the making and was tied to a promotion featuring a new menu item.

“We are launching a brand new chicken sandwich. We call it the best clucking chicken sandwich in the world and Dolly, who has been with Big Boys since the 1950s as far back as we can go with our comics,” said Frank Alessandrini, Big Boy’s training director at Wood Michigan TV. “We decided she would be the star of this sandwich, just like Big Boy was the star of his double-decker sandwich.”

Dolly has already replaced Big Boy as the mascot on the company’s website and social media pages, but it’s unclear whether this is a permanent change or just a temporary promotional measure for the new chicken sandwich.

“It’s Dolly’s time to shine now with our chicken sandwich.” So she’s at the forefront right now. She’s in charge,” Alessandrini said. “The name will always be Big Boy but as far as the logo goes, she’s leading the charge and we’ll see when it comes back if it does.”
