ISP: Man arrested on drug charges after officers pull partially submerged truck from river

HARRISON COUNTY, Ind. – A man was arrested after officials pulled a truck from a river on Friday.

According to a news release, rescuers were dispatched to a boat ramp in Mauckport on reports of a submerged vehicle. When state troopers and other officials arrived, they found the F-150 truck mostly submerged in the Ohio River.

The ISP indicated the truck driver backed too far up the boat ramp. Police identified the truck driver as 61-year-old James Schuppert of Mauckport.

The release states that police who responded to the scene knew Schuppert and knew he had an outstanding arrest warrant.

An ISP diver, with the help of the A-1 tug, helped remove Schuppert and the vehicle from the river. Once police brought Schuppert back to land, he was taken into custody and taken to the Harrison County Jail.

Schuppert was initially charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possessing methamphetamine and possessing methamphetamine paraphernalia.

The most serious charge Schuppert faces is manufacturing methamphetamine, a fourth-degree felony. The maximum penalty for such a crime in Indiana is 12 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

No additional information about Schuppert or the incident was made available for publication of this article.
