Helen Skelton says no one should feel ‘mother guilt’

Helen Skelton wants us to abandon the idea of ”mother guilt” altogether. The mother of three said she doesn’t think mothers should ever feel guilty about how they choose to raise their children.

Skelton told OK! magazine that she has “so much to celebrate” in her life, both professionally and personally. When asked about the idea of “mom guilt,” she explained that she has a huge problem with the term in general.

“I think it’s a phrase we should just never say out loud again,” the 40-year-old said. “You could use that phrase for anything in life. If we don’t exercise enough, do we feel guilty? If we don’t eat enough vegetables, do we feel guilty?

“This is a phrase that needs to be rejected. You really need to invest in the right energy, and feeling guilty is just a waste of time.”

Skelton has three children with her ex-husband, rugby player Richie Myler – two sons and a daughter, aged two to eight. She said that raising them is “constant entertainment” for her.

“My kids are great company and have such strong personalities that you never know what’s coming your way,” Skelton said.

“Some mornings they come down dressed as a dinosaur or maybe carrying a snowboard. It’s just constant entertainment and you have to be on your toes the whole time. I’m very blessed in that way.”

Skelton is increasingly busy as a TV presenter, with the new series Springtime on the Farm already airing on Channel 5. She also serves as a regular co-presenter of the BBC’s Morning Live.
