UEFA Euro 2024 – Why was the Germany-Denmark match suspended?

UEFA Euro 2024 cannot stop surprising fans. The tournament has already seen some fantastic matches, with several strong teams suffering surprising defeats. However, in today’s match between Germany and Denmark, there was a lightning moment that prevented everyone on the pitch from doing their job. The match had to be suspended by referee Michael Oliver around the 36th minute when the players left the pitch. But what was the reason?

The game was met with panic as the sky turned violent and there were striking sounds of thunder and lightning. Heavy pelting then began in the Westfalenstadion, leaving the crowds in the stands to cover themselves. The match continued as usual, with the hosts, Germany, dominating most of the time and even testing Kasper Schmeichel, but with the weather being problematic, no risks were taken.

After Oliver temporarily suspended the game, the reason given was: “due to unfavorable weather conditions.” Despite this, players from both teams and referees returned to the pitch after a few minutes of break. Play resumed after a 5-minute warm-up by both teams and the score currently remains zero at half-time.
