DRACUT — Firefighters had their hands full this week as they were called out to extinguish two home garage fires that broke out less than 16 hours apart.

According to the Dracut Fire Department, no one was injured and no one had to evacuate due to either fire.

“Thanks to very good, aggressive firefighting, we were able to knock down the fire and limit the damage on both occasions,” said Dracut Fire Chief Richard Patterson.

Firefighters were called to the first fire at 67 Mailloux Terrace around 9:35 p.m. Thursday. The team arrived on site to see smoke coming from the garage of a single-family home and began an aggressive attack. Fire damage was limited to the garage, while the house suffered minor smoke damage.

An investigation determined the fire was caused by “careless removal of smoke materials,” fire officials said.

At approximately 1:05 p.m. Friday, firefighters called to 854 Mammoth Road resumed the fire and this time found flames coming from the garage underneath the living area of the single-family home. Firefighters said they aggressively attacked the fire and knocked it down before it could spread beyond the garage.

The cause of Friday’s fire is being determined.

Firefighters from Pelham, N.H., provided mutual aid at the scene of both fires, and firefighters from Tyngsboro and Lowell secured the Dracut station during Friday’s fire.
