(KRON) — The Stockton Police Department arrested a couple Wednesday suspected in the death of their child, police said Friday.

At about 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, police said they responded to a Stockton hospital in reference to the death of a 1-month-old baby. Medical personnel told police the boy had suffered multiple injuries “consistent with abuse,” police said.

Police, along with detectives from the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit (CASA), then contacted the parents, 23-year-old Robert Meyer Sr. and 23-year-old Sareya Sexton. After conducting a preliminary investigation, police said the pair had been arrested on suspicion of murder and criminal harassment.

Meyer and Sexton were booked into the San Joaquin County Jail.

This is still an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call SPD at 209-937-8377.
