10-year-old girl raped, murdered in Narela; both accused arrested: Police

Two men have been arrested in connection with murder and rape after a 10-year-old girl was found dead in a plot in Narela, police said on Saturday, adding that both the accused lived in the girl’s neighborhood.

The girl’s father called the police control room (PCR) late on Friday evening to report that his daughter had gone out to play after dinner. When she did not return, he and his family frantically searched for her but could not locate her, authorities said.

Soon after the PCR call was made, the police found the girl’s body in an abandoned plot near her house, officials said, adding that her head had been smashed. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) reached the spot to collect evidence and the analysis revealed that the girl had been raped, officials added.

The girl’s father told the police that some people saw one of the accused, his neighbor, leading his daughter towards the plot.

“Investigation revealed that the accused — Rahul Gupta, 21, and Rakesh Tiwari, 34 — took the girl to an abandoned plot and raped her,” said DCP Ravi Kumar, Outer North Delhi. He also said that they then smashed her head with a brick and killed her.

A case has been filed under Sections 363, 302, 376-D of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) and Section 6 of the POCSO Act. While Rahul works in a rubber cylinder factory, Rakesh, also known as Dev Dutt, works in an umbrella factory.
