Amarnath yatra 2024: ‘Absent’ officer suspended in Kashmir for ‘sabotaging’ yatra

A local officer has been suspended in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on charges of “sabotaging” the Amarnath yatra by missing duty.

Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid, Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag, has issued an order suspending Pahalgam Naib Tehsildar Ovais Amir for “leaving the station without permission and sabotaging the ongoing Amarnath yatra”.

A sub-divisional level officer has been deputed to “investigate the matter of non-compliance of orders by the Naib Tehsildar”. “The suspended officer will remain attached to his office during the period of suspension,” the order said.

The annual Amarnath yatra began from the twin bases in Kashmir.
