Third person arrested in connection with Stonehenge incident

A third person has been arrested in connection with an incident at Stonehenge on Wednesday, in which several stones of the Stonehenge monument were sprayed with an orange substance.

On Thursday (June 27), Metropolitan Police officers arrested a man in his 30s from Essex on suspicion of:

1) Aiding and abetting, section 1 of the Criminal Damages Act 1971.

2) Aiding and abetting, Section 19 (unauthorised entry) and Section 28 (damage) of the Monuments and Archaeological Sites Act 1979.

3) Aiding and inciting, Art. 68 (grave trespass) Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994

He has now been released on bail.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “Two other people, a man in his 70s and a woman in her 20s, previously arrested in connection with the incident, remain on bail while inquiries continue.

“We continue to work with English Heritage and partners to progress our enquiries.”
