Kristin Chenoweth opens up about her experiences with domestic violence.

On Saturday, May 18, the 55-year-old Broadway actress shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) in which she reflected on a recently released video of Sean “Diddy” Combs physically attacking his then-girlfriend, singer Casandra “Kasia” Ventura.

“Honestly, I have my reasons for the Sean Combs video bothering me so much,” Chenoweth wrote. “The most important thing I need to do is pray for him. I really do.”

When a commenter responded to Chenoweth’s post by stating that she should pray for the “victims” rather than the “evil perpetrators,” the actress opened up for the first time about her own experiences with abusive relationships.

“I never wanted to talk about it, but here you go,” she began. “A few years ago I experienced serious violence. I needed therapy and prayer to understand that I deserved better.”

“I have been deeply damaged physically and spiritually,” she continued. “The only thing I knew how to do when I got out was to pray. Let’s pray for each other. Let us pray for him as he grew up molested. So. Here you go”.

“This was the lowest score of my life,” she wrote, sharing several more posts. “I must admit that I have not yet forgiven. It is beyond me. God is helping me through this stage.”

“The victim has to deal with it however (she/he/they) has to and however it is best for her,” Chenoweth continued, adding that by sharing her experience, “maybe it will help someone.”

Chenoweth is currently married to singer Josh Bryant. The couple married on September 2, 2023 in Texas.

The actress’s social media posts come after CNN released surveillance footage from 2016 on Friday, May 17, showing Diddy, 54, grabbing, pushing and kicking his ex-girlfriend.

The video shows Ventura leaving the hotel room and walking towards the elevator, then Combs follows her, grabs her by the neck and throws her to the ground. He can then be seen kicking her and then dragging her towards the hotel room. Combs then walks away before sitting in a chair and throwing an object at her.

Combs’ actions in the video match allegations made by Ventura, 37, in a now-settled lawsuit filed in November.

Ventura’s attorney Douglas H. Wigdor told PEOPLE in a statement that the “gut-wrenching video only confirmed Mr. Combs’ disturbing and predatory behavior.”

“Words cannot express the courage and fortitude Ms. Ventura has shown in bringing this matter to light,” Wigdor added.
