Quincy Wilson, 16-year-old phenom, heading to Paris Olympics in 4x400m relay: Reports

Quincy Wilson, a talented high school student and one of the rising stars of the U.S. Olympic track and field qualifiers, will reportedly go to Paris.

The 16-year-old from Bullis High, Maryland, was invited to join the six-man U.S. 4 × 400 relay team, his coach Joe Lee told The Washington Post.

The three best results from the 400-meter race finals automatically enter the pool. Quincy Hall won the gold medal, with Michael Norman and Chris Bailey placing second and third. They will compete for the United States in the 400.

Tradition holds that Vernon Norwood, who finished fourth, gets one of the spots, with the last two going to the coaches. Wilson finished sixth in the final and ran the 400m in under 45 seconds in all three rounds.

DEEPER

For teenage track and field prodigy Quincy Wilson, everything is different now – Olympics or not

Wilson will gain valuable experience as part of the relay pool as he prepares for what looks set to be the beginning of a long professional career with multiple Olympics. He has already signed an NIL deal with New Balance.

Lee said Monday that Wilson would return to high school instead of turning professional.

The relay pool is designed to spread the workload over three legs. In the final, when it’s time to medal, the best will take over. The expected three are Hall, Norman, Bailey and probably Rai Benjamin, the 400-meter hurdles champion.
