Ocean Beach – Boy’s Club: 13th Floor New song of the day

Ocean beach release the first of five new singles which will give rise to the new album, The long way home.

Here is the presentation text with more:

Ocean beach are a 5-piece band based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland whose music ranges from crunchy pop-punk folk to shoegaze-influenced cinematic cruisers.

Imagine a world where Bryan Ferry And Steve Malkmus A Tongan child became a cheesemaker who learned to play the guitar. A world where DD Smash takes more acid, and Ram Dass is part of a pub rock band. A world where sound instrumentals merge with pop in the middle of spaghetti junction.

Gary Dalhousie is this a love child. Ocean beach is the vehicle. The next album, The long way homeis the story of one man’s journey from an anxious Southland kid to a conscious father, partner and mentor.

From 1970s Invercargill to modern-day Gray Lynn, our protagonist is kicked off a neurotic state highway of self-medication. Drugs, alcohol and anxiety-ridden crime fueled this unjustifiable cluster from one of the world’s southernmost cities, all the way up State Highway 1 and the Northwest Highway, only to be ejected out of St Lukes.

Five new Ocean beach Excerpts will be shared at the start of each month, retracing the story of our cheesemakers’ journey. It will be revealed in its entirety when The long way home comes out at the end of this year.

Today, the first single from the series, “Boys’ Club”, is released, recorded and produced by Cotton Dale (Bats, HDU, Subliminals, Bachelor and much more).

Gary Dalhousie said, “I grew up in Invercargill in the 70s and 80s in one of the few Pasifika families in the city. I developed a deep respect for the role of women in our home. My mother emigrated from Tonga in 1962, which gave me a sensitivity to the injustices inflicted on all people, but especially people of colour, Indigenous people and women.

This song is dedicated to the many privileged boys who party their entire lives within the patriarchy and seek to protect their position at the head of the class (of private school boys) by keeping that glass ceiling low.
