Teacher in court accused of seducing and sexually abusing one of her students – The Irish News

A Belfast school teacher has appeared in court accused of seducing and sexually abusing one of her students.

The 32-year-old woman allegedly attacked the teenage boy over a four-month period, with at least one encounter taking place at a popular lookout point overlooking the city.

Her lawyer, however, said he claimed she was the victim of any encounters with youth.

For legal reasons, the name of the accused, who was suspended by the school where she taught, cannot be revealed.

She was charged with a total of seven charges, including sexual assault, sexual contact with a child and meeting a child following sexual grooming.

It is also alleged that the accused engaged in sexual contact with the boy while in a position of trust.

Further charges include sexual contact with the teenager, possession of an indecent photograph of him and indecent behavior in a public place – namely in the Black Mountain area of Belfast.

The alleged offences took place between February and May this year.

Appearing before Belfast Magistrates’ Court for the first time, the woman confirmed she understood the charges against her.

Defense lawyer Adrian Harvey said this was an exceptional case.

“The defendant is also a complainant in connection with these proceedings,” he revealed.

Mr Harvey told the court all her computers and phones were confiscated as part of the police investigation.

“She is a full-time teacher but has apparently been suspended as a result,” the lawyer added.

Presiding District Judge Steven Keown adjourned the case to July 29.
