8-year-old boy released from hospital

An 8-year-old boy who was seriously injured in the mass shooting at the Brooklands Plaza splash pad in Rochester Hills was released from the hospital Friday, authorities said.

On June 15, a suspect, later identified as William Michael Nash, 42, of Shelby Township, opened fire on families near the splash pad, wounding nine people. The shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after the mass shooting, police said.

Previously, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard and a GoFundMe for the 8-year-old victim (whose name was not otherwise released) said the boy was shot in the head. He is now resting comfortably at home, the sheriff’s office confirmed in a statement Saturday.

Most of the other victims were released within a week of the shooting, but only two victims remain hospitalized: a 30-year-old woman who was critically injured and a 39-year-old Rochester Hills woman, the mother of the 8-year-old, who was critically injured while trying to protect her children from the shooter.
