Queensland teenager dies in serious crash at Tummaville near Toowoomba

A teenager has died in a crash south of Toowoomba.

Initial inquiries indicate a white Toyota van was travelling east on Owens Scrub Road, towards Leyburn in Tummaville, just before 3pm on Friday when it left the road, struck a tree and caught fire.

7NEWS understands that a 17-year-old boy managed to escape the wreck and was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

However, the 18-year-old driver died at the scene.

Police are appealing to anyone with information or dashcam footage that could assist with the investigation.
