Man arrested after tyres blow out during police chase on M1 motorway on Gold Coast

A man has been arrested after the tyres of his van burst during a police chase on the Gold Coast.

7NEWS filmed a man being chased at low speed by police on the M1 motorway in Palm Beach at around 10am on Monday.

He shouted something unintelligible to the journalist and camera operator of 7NEWS.

It has not been revealed why police began chasing the man about 20 minutes before he was arrested when he crashed on the M1 motorway in Palm Beach.

He has not yet been charged and the investigation is ongoing.

Detective Superintendent Craig Hanlon said police would conduct an investigation to establish whether the man was under the influence of a drug.

“We will look at the reasons for his behavior,” Hanlon said.

“It was a low-speed pursuit. Police positioned themselves behind the vehicle to prevent other road users from avoiding it.”

No one was injured in the incident.

The police refused to provide the man’s age and place of residence.
