Justin Timberlake asks fans if ‘anyone was driving’ at concert amid arrest

Justin Timberlake asked fans if anyone at his concert was “driving” after he was charged with a drunk driving offence.

The 43-year-old American pop star, who rose to fame as a member of the boy band NSYNC, was arrested on Tuesday in Sag Harbor, a wealthy village in the Hamptons, New York.

Police say he failed to stop at a stop sign and remained in the right lane.

On Saturday, he told the crowd at Boston’s TD Garden in a social media video: “Is there anyone here driving, no, I’m just kidding.”

Timberlake vehemently denies the allegations, and his lawyer says he looks forward to a “strong defense” of the singer.

The Sag Harbor Village Police Department said Timberlake was stopped at 12:37 p.m. local time on June 18 after officers observed him “failing to stop at a properly placed stop sign and maintaining his lane” while driving a BMW.

Court documents say the officer described his eyes as “bloodshot and glassy” and stated that “there was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.”

“He had poor concentration, slow speech, was unsteady on his feet, and performed poorly on all standard field sobriety tests,” court documents said.

The social networking actor was held overnight until he was arraigned in Sag Harbor Village Superior Court and released.

The court hearing is scheduled for July 26.

He previously addressed the arrest, saying it was “a tough week” after returning to the Chicago stage for the first time following his arrest in June.

Timberlake will continue his string of US performances and will take the stage in Boston on Sunday evening before heading to Baltimore, Maryland, Cleveland, Ohio and Lexington, Kentucky.

The European part of the Grammy winner’s tour starts on July 26 in Krakow.

It includes shows in Birmingham and Manchester, as well as two shows in August at The O2 in London.
