Jude Bellingham saved England from being knocked out of Euro 2024 against Slovakia on Sunday with a superb 95th-minute equalizer before Harry Kane’s extra-time winner sent the pre-tournament favorites below par into the quarter-finals.

England once again played poorly, were lethargic and were unable to create clear opportunities.

But a moment of magic from Bellingham, who scored with a bicycle kick, kept them alive before Kane’s header set up Saturday’s clash with Switzerland in Dusseldorf.

Mail Sport presents all the statistics that are important after a dramatic match.

Ivan Toney proved to be a handful after entering the match in the fourth minute of added time

So what was the secret of this comeback?

Well, aside from a bit of Bellingham’s brilliance, the long-awaited shapeshift seemed to have an impact.

Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden were given the chance to play on the wings in the English starting system, but offered very little space; the mid-position map shows how narrow England’s front four were.

The introduction of Cole Palmer and Eberechi Eze helped to rectify this situation, as did the change to a 3-5-2 formation when Ivan Toney came off the bench in the 93rd minute.

Time for Toney? Ivan makes his mark

The Brentford striker proved to be a tough opponent when he came on and provided the assist for Harry Kane’s winning goal.

It could be said that Toney was a bigger challenge for the Slovak defense than Kane.
