Former Bogalusa firefighter convicted in St. Tammany Parish sex assault case

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WGNO) – A former Bogalusa firefighter has been sentenced after pleading guilty in a St. Parish sexual assault case. Tammany involving a nursing home resident.

District Attorney Collin Sims’ office said Brandon Applewhite, 39, pleaded guilty Tuesday, June 25, to charges of sexual assault of a victim with a physical or mental disability and molestation of a victim with a physical or mental disability.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, the case was filed in February 2022.

Court documents State authorities seized Applewhite’s phone as part of an unrelated investigation out of St. Parish. Tammany.

The district attorney’s office said an analysis of the phone found inappropriate photos of a resident at St. John’s Nursing Home. Tammany Parish and text messages “between Applewhite and an employee at St. Tammany Parish, during which the employee agreed to send him illegal photos of the woman.”

On Tuesday, Applewhite was sentenced to 30 years in prison without the possibility of parole, and must register as a convicted sex offender after serving his sentence.
