Anita Baker’s ongoing The Songstress Tour will go without a support act due to issues between the “Sweet Love” singer and fans of Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds.

After Babyface’s performance at a New Jersey concert last month was canceled due to technical issues, Baker took to Twitter earlier this week to share that he was receiving threats from his supporters. On Tuesday, she took to the social media platform to announce Babyface’s removal from the remainder of the tour.

“After silent, sustained online abuse/verbal abuse and threats of violence from fans under the act for our special guest/supporter. In the interest of personal safety. I will continue The Songstress Tour alone” he tweeted Baker, 65. “Appropriate refunds will be made.”

Babyface, 64, later posted on his blog social media accounts about the situation. “I am saddened to hear that Anita Baker has decided to remove me from ‘The Songstress Tour,'” he wrote. “It’s sad and depressing how things have played out on social media.”

He continued: “While I was looking forward to the rest of the shows, I have nothing but love and respect for Anita and wish her all the best for the rest of the tour.”

The pair’s concert, scheduled for May 10 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, was delayed due to technical difficulties. As a result, the audience was informed that Babyface’s performance had been canceled so Baker could give her full performance.

In a statement to PEOPLE, the 12-time Grammy winner explained that the production crew was unable to get the video screen to work before his performance.

“As advanced as technology is today, sometimes we are at its mercy. Unfortunately, the video wall wasn’t working that day and time was not on our side,” Babyface said, noting that he will perform at the Long Island, New York, stop of the tour on Friday.

“I am incredibly sorry to the fans, but I have nothing but love and respect for Anita,” he continued in his statement. “I look forward to continuing our tour together and I will see you tomorrow.”

Later that week, Baker posted several tweets about misfortune. “TECH/video wall/glitch,” she wrote. “It caused a delay. Live Nation/Producers took responsibility… I/We/Us took the stage anyway. Late… but love won.”

Since the incident, the pair have performed at two shows together — but Baker said Babyface’s fans threatened her in a series of tweets Monday. “Kenny’s Crazies are internet bullies. @Baby face Please cancel, your fans. I have been nothing but nice and supportive to you as a special guest/supporter on my tour,” she said he wrote.

“As you can see… Some of his fans do not accept the reality that he has a contract to be a special guest on My Tour. Some even want to hurt me… Crazy. City,” reads another tweet from Baker.

The Songstress Tour continues on June 30 with a concert at the United Center in Chicago.
