Man arrested in Chesapeake after car chase on US 168

CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) – Police say a man accused of stealing a Jeep from Currituck County was arrested Sunday night in Chesapeake.

According to officials, a vehicle theft was reported around 11 p.m. in the Laurel Woods neighborhood of Currituck. Deputies said a Jeep was stolen from that area.


A Currituck County Sheriff’s Office deputy was able to locate the stolen vehicle on US 168 in Moyock heading toward Chesapeake.

The deputy began pursuing the vehicle into Chesapeake when the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Elijah Drew, lost control of the Jeep and crashed behind a toll booth. Drew attempted to flee on foot.

A short time later, Drew was found in a field and arrested with the help of Chesapeake police.

According to the sheriff’s office, Drew is currently in the Chesapeake City Jail awaiting extradition.
