“My mom tried to burn my face with a cigarette.”

She’s only been in the Australian outback for a few days, but Lady Colin Campbell is already winning the hearts of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here viewers.

The socialite and TV personality is much-loved for her eccentric persona, but she has previously opened up about a very dark period in her life that “destroyed” her relationship with her mother.

Lady C was born in Jamaica and raised as a boy because she had a genital deformity. In the past, she has claimed that her mother was an alcoholic who suffered from narcissistic personality disorder.

The reality star also revealed that when she finally underwent corrective surgery at age 21 and got a new, female ID card, her mother became jealous of her looks and tried to burn her face with cigarettes.

Lady C shared, “It ruined my relationship with her. Narcissists are very jealous of other people, but at the time I didn’t know she was a narcissist.

“I just thought she was terrible to me. Now I know what motivated her.”

Still, when the 66-year-old was urged by a friend to write a book about living with a “monster” after her mother’s death, she initially declined, adding: “I think she thought I had the tools, the spiritual tools, to do it justice.”

“I was honored, but then I stepped back. I said it was my mother! But she said, “No, your mother is dead. It is no longer a disgrace for her.”

Her sister Libby also wanted Lady C to write a book, with the star continuing: “You can’t go around telling people what a monster your mother was. It’s inappropriate. So I think she wants some recognition and validation of what she suffered at the hands of that monster.

At one point, Lady C was so incensed by her mother’s behaviour that she planned to have her daughter committed to a mental institution, as she told The Scotsman: “I didn’t sleep for three days and nights trying to work it out… I was proud of myself for coming up with the idea, although a bit ashamed that it had taken me three days.

“Mommy was making these damn plans and it took me three days.”

Lady C decided not to pursue her plan, but eventually agreed to write a book about her mother in 2009. The book was well received and was titled: “Narcissus’ Daughter: A Family’s Fight to Survive Their Mother’s Narcissistic Personality Disorder.”
