Thieves attack businesses in Bangor, Co Down, then make off with £11,000 caravan

Police are investigating (PA)

Police have appealed for information following a series of thefts, including the theft of an £11,000 trailer in County Down.

Between 12.45pm and 1.50am a number of businesses in Bangor, all located near the Balloo Industrial Estate, were attacked. One business had its windows ransacked and another had its windows smashed.

Three men in a dark-coloured vehicle were spotted trying to cut through the padlocks securing the caravan park before driving away to a different location on Balloo Drive.

After an unsuccessful attempt to cut through the fence, the vehicle parked behind the substation before the perpetrators forced their way through the gate to steal the trailer, worth around £2,400.

“Shortly after 1am they moved to another business where they damaged a CCTV camera and entered the store, smashing the glass in the front door,” a PSNI spokesman said.

“They stole a sum of money.

“The three men then got into the vehicle and stopped at a car wash, smashing a window in the building and ransacking the interior.

“At around 1.50am the vehicle stopped in Balloo Crescent and a second trailer was stolen – this time a three-axle trailer worth around £11,000.

“It was hooked up to the vehicle and they ran away.”

Anyone who may have witnessed a suspicious person in the area, either at the time of the theft or in the days preceding it, has been asked to contact detectives on 101 and quote reference number 538 29/06/24.
