1 shooter wanted, 1 arrested in connection with gas station shooting

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Evansville police have arrested one of the men who police say fired shots near an Evansville gas station.

As reported, the incident occurred Sunday morning at the On the Fly gas station at Covert and South Green River Road.

Three people were injured.

Police say 32-year-old Luther Lawton Jr. is one of two shooters seen in surveillance footage.

They say the first shooter, who has not yet been arrested, fired shots that hit the minor in the head and the man in the chest.

The juvenile was taken to a hospital outside Evansville with serious injuries.

Police say the man’s injuries are not life-threatening.

They say Lawton fired a shot that hit the woman in the leg.

He is charged with possession of a weapon by a felon, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and battery with a deadly weapon.

Police say a large crowd of about 300 people gathered in a nearby parking lot shortly before the shooting.
