Frenchman Adrien Rabiot out of Euro 2024 quarter-finals due to suspension

France midfielder Adrien Rabiot will miss his side’s European Championship quarter-finals due to suspension.

The 29-year-old received a yellow card on Monday during France’s round of 16 win over Belgium, his second yellow card of the tournament.

The Juventus midfielder also received a yellow card in France’s 1-1 draw with Poland in their final group stage match, meaning he has crossed the two-yellow card threshold and is grounds for a suspension from the tournament.

France beat Belgium in a game that had few chances. In the 86th minute, substitute Randal Kolo Muani’s shot deflected off defender Jan Vertonghen and into goalkeeper Koen Casteels, a decision that UEFA deemed an own goal.

It was a match that continued the theme of the French tournament; Didier Deschamps’s men are yet to score from open play – they have scored two own goals and one from the penalty spot – and have conceded just one goal in four matches, from the penalty spot.

On Friday in Hamburg, France will play the winner of Monday’s quarter-final between Portugal and Slovenia.
