A 34-year-old Eureka man died in a motorcycle crash near Redway |  Lost Coast Outpost

On June 29, 2024 at approximately 10:35 p.m., Humboldt Communication Center (CHP Dispatch) received a 9-1-1 call regarding a motorcycle accident on Redwood Drive, north of the Redway community. The Redway Volunteer Fire Department, City EMS, and CHP responded to the scene and rendered aid to the driver. The driver, Raul Villalobos, a 34-year-old Eureka resident, was transported to Jerold Phelps Medical Center in Garberville where he was pronounced dead. Villalobos was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The initial investigation revealed that Villalobos was traveling north on Redwood Drive at a high rate of speed. Villalobos laid the motorcycle down, which left the roadway and struck an embankment. The Garberville Area CHP is investigating the cause of the crash.

The California Highway Patrol would like to remind drivers to wear appropriate safety equipment while riding a motorcycle, including Department of Transportation (DOT) approved helmets.
