Former School Resource Officer Pleads Guilty in Blind for Engaging in Sexual Communication with Minor – Guthrie News Page

Former school resource officer Christopher Andrews has pleaded guilty to impersonating a minor, charging that he engaged in sexual contact with a minor using technology.

Deliberations were held at the Logan County Circuit Courthouse on June 26, where the judge ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set a sentencing date of September 4, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.

Until then, Andrews will remain at his current position on $30,000 bail.

In a blind plea, the defendant admits guilt or does not contest the verdict without the benefit of a plea agreement. This means the judge has complete discretion in sentencing.

The accusation dates back to January 2022, when the Guthrie News Page reported that a warrant had been issued for Andrews, who was a Logan County sheriff’s deputy at the time, for communicating for sexual or lewd purposes via text message with a 17-year-old girl.

The affidavit says Andrews clearly spoke to the minor about potential sexual acts and sent her messages between June and September 2021.

Andrews, 36, faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.

Andrews’ employment history includes working as a corrections officer before becoming a deputy. Following an internal investigation by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), he was suspended and then fired on December 3, 2021. At the time of his termination, Andrews was serving as the interim school resource officer at Guthrie High School.

The incident came to light on December 3, 2021, when a Guthrie Public Schools administrator received a report from a community member about Andrews having an inappropriate relationship with a high school student.

The matter was immediately referred to the Guthrie Police Department and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, and Andrews was removed from any future assignments with the school district.

Andrews worked as a contract employee at the high school during the day, working a total of nine days in September and October, and while off duty provided security for two college football games played at the school.
