Suspect arrested in May 6 murder of 22-year-old in Aiken

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that happened two months ago in the 300 block of Greenwich Drive in Aiken.

Jaquarez Bibbs, 28, of North Augusta, was arrested Monday in Richmond County, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

He has been charged with murder in the death of Jalen Jones, 22, who was shot about 11:33 a.m. May 6 at a residence in the 300 block of Greenwich Drive in Aiken. His body was found in a shed and he had been shot multiple times in the upper torso, authorities said.

After Bibbs was arrested around midnight Monday, he was booked into the Richmond County Jail on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime of violence.

He will have to undergo an extradition hearing or waive that right before he can be transported to another state.

The arrest was made by agents and deputies of the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Jones’ death occurred amid an outbreak of violent crime that claimed more than 150 lives in the CSRA over a two-year periodThis affected communities large and small on both sides of the Savannah River.

Authorities have blamed much of the problem on gangs, and many of the victims, like Jones, as well as the suspects, are young men.
