SWANSEA — Chief Eric Hajder is pleased to announce that the Swansea Fire Department held a swearing-in ceremony for three firefighters last week.

On Tuesday 25 June, Swansea Fire Brigade held a ceremony at Swansea Town Hall where firefighters took the oath of office before the City Council.

In attendance were City Administrator Mallory Aronstein, Board of Selectmen Steve Kitchin, Robert Medeiros and Mike Beaudette, as well as family and friends of the firefighters and numerous members of the fire department.

“The uniform worn by our firefighters is an expression of the great tradition of our community, a tradition of excellence and a tradition of volunteerism that is hard to find in many other communities in the Commonwealth,” said Robert Medeiros, City Council President.

During the ceremony, Chief Hyder administered the oath to Richard Albernaz (Station 1) and Bruce Katz (Station 2). Landon Rowe (Station 4) was recognized but was unable to attend the ceremony.

Firefighter Albernaz was immobilized by his daughters, Analia and Olivia, and Firefighter Katz was immobilized by his wife, Claudine.

“On behalf of the entire department, I would like to congratulate firefighters Albernaz, Katz and Rowe and welcome them to the Swansea Fire Department,” said Chief Hajder. “We look forward to a long and distinguished career with our department and wish them all the best as they officially join the Swansea Fire family.”

Three of them were among 32 fire department graduates from recruiting class No. 111. The graduates received certificates of completion during a ceremony held in May at Bridgewater State University.
